if you were lucky enough to attend EDC Las Vegas, it might be hard to imagine how Insomniac plans to outdo what has gone down as one of the most aesthetically and experientially stellar music festivals to date. Recently, Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella announced that one new addition will be the launch of its very own dance music awards via a parternship with Dick Clark Productions (American Music Awards, Golden Globes). The awards will take place in Las Vegas when EDC Week returns from June 17-23.
Although this is separate from the festival itself, it provides a greater incentive for both the DJs and their fans to come with more energy knowing that there are bragging rights at stake. Everyone wants to be recognized for their talent.
There is no official word on how the votes will be collected, but Rotella did share these words in a statement to Billboard:
"We want it to stay super credible and not driven by politics or labels. We want it to be about things that are buzzing within dance music."
He went on to say that the show will draw inspiration from the Grammy's and the People's Choice Awards as well, indicating that perhaps there will be multiple variables at play as to strive for the best possible turnout. Stay tuned for further news, but for now, you might want to reconsider if you were thinking about skipping the biggest party of the summer.
